This charming brief stroll meanders alongside a babbling stream in the lush rainforest. It serves as a fantastic introduction to the forest for kids, and, come nightfall, offers the extra enchantment of glow worms. Plus, it's accessible for both wheelchairs and strollers.

Te Weheka Walkway/Cycleway

Stroll or bike your way through the dense forest from Fox Glacier township to reach a vantage point overlooking the largest active landslide in New Zealand.

Fox Glacier Southside Walkway/Cycleway

The walk/cycle path traces the southern bank of the Fox River as it winds through primeval podocarp rainforest.

Moraine Walk

Discover the remnants of ancient moraine surfaces during this effortless, concise walk located to the south of Fox Glacier township.

Mount Fox Route

The Mount Fox Route lies a mere 3 km to the south of Fox Glacier town. The demanding ascent to the summit is exclusively appropriate for seasoned hikers with the necessary equipment and experience.

  1. Hunting: The region is renowned for its opportunities for big game hunting. Hunters can pursue red deer, fallow deer, chamois, and tahr in the Southern Alps and surrounding areas. Guided hunting trips are available, and you'll need to obtain the appropriate permits and adhere to the hunting regulations.

  2. Fishing: The lakes in Glacier Country (excluding Lake Matheson) provide exceptional fishing experiences. Brown trout and salmon are the primary catches. Popular spots include Lake Mapourika and Lake Paringa. Make sure to obtain a fishing license and be mindful of local fishing regulations. The beaches also offer great surf casting opportunities not to mention deep-sea fishing if you have the experience and gear. 

  3. White baiting: Many rivers in South Westland offer exceptional whitebait fishing during the South Island season (September 01 - October 31. You'll need to obtain the appropriate permits and adhere to regulations.

Fox Glacier Theatre Group

The Fox Glacier Theatre Group endeavors to put on one show annually and we welcome participants both onstage and behind the scenes. This a great opportunity to meet people and put your creative skills to use.
