There is a change to after-hours and weekend Health services in South Westland – Ka Ora is the new organisation answering our after-hours and weekend telephone calls. Please note that this is not the previous call centre service that South Westland had. The phone number has not changed it is 0800 794 325 for now. If this changes we will let you know. There is a mail box drop of the Ka Ora information soon to be underway.
Many of the afterhours and weekend calls for example unwell children, wounds, and people needing on the spot treatment will still need a consult with the Rural Nurse in their nearby clinic in South Westland so there is no change there, but Ka Ora is now the first point of call after hours and weekends, and replaces the previous call centre HML and they will forward your call to the Rural Nurse.
Ka Ora also offer telehealth services week-nights with a GP or Nurse Practitioner – so you can call 0800252672 after 5 pm during weekdays and have a consultation on the phone. They are set up to provide prescriptions to the Pharmacy, but only when the Westland Pharmacy is open. Unless you are able to collect the medications from Hokitika, they will be sent on the Grey Valley Courier as usual to the Fox Store in Fox Glacier for pickup.
The Rural Nurses will continue to be on-call at weekends and after hours for urgent or emergency calls as usual.
The phone number to call during weekday office hours is still 0800 794 325, but these calls are now answered by our South Westland administration/receptionists Monday to Friday.
